After visiting the cathedral and its treasures, we wandered over to the Black and White House, through the last of the fair rides and booths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Black and White House<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Built in 1621 as a residence and shop, the house narrowly escaped the destruction in the early 1800s and was left standing alone. Afterward, it was used as a saddler’s, a fishmonger’s, a hardware shop, and even a bank. Donated to the city in 1927, it was restored and furnished as a museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We love\u00a0Hereford. It has everything<\/em> necessary for a civilized, comfortable life, including at least two Indian\/Bangladesh eateries, as well as Italian and Japanese restaurants, not to mention a chip shop, a proper butcher’s, good pubs, local perry and cider, an M & S: and more! Also lovely walks, parks, a bowling green, the river Wye, and an ancient cathedral. And the Mappa Mundi.\u00a0 Warm, lovely weather this May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

High Tea at Castle House<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We had fortified ourselves earlier with the “full Hereford” breakfast and would do so again the next morning before leaving, so a large dinner didn’t suit. Lunch + supper = High Tea, a wondrous assortment of sweets and savouries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
